A little story about candles

Once upon a time, there was a merchant. He seems to have a natural business acumen. He always anticipates the market in advance and manages the money carefully. So, for the first two or three years, everything goes well, but later on, he always runs into trouble.

He always thought his hired men lazy and lazy, so he was more severe with them, and often punished them by taking away their salaries, so that they did not stay long with him before they left; He always suspected that his competitors were saying bad things about him behind his back or using unfair means to compete. Otherwise, why did his customers slowly migrate to his competitors? He was always complaining about his family. He felt that they were not only not helping him in his business, but also giving him trouble all the time.

A few years later, the businessman’s wife left him. His company was unable to sustain itself and went bankrupt. In order to pay off his debts, he had to buy an apartment in the city and go to live in the small town by himself.

That night, it was stormy, and the electricity in the merchant’s block was out again. This made the merchant very upset, and he complained to himself about the injustice of his fate. Just then, there was a knock on the door. The merchant, as he got up impatiently to open the door, wondered: On such a day, it would not be a good thing for anyone to knock! Besides, he doesn’t know anyone in town.

When the merchant opened the door, he saw a little girl standing at the door. She looked up and asked, “Sir, do you have a candle in your house?” The businessman became more annoyed and thought, “How annoying it is to borrow things when you just moved here!”

So he said a nonchalant “No” and began to close the door. At this time, the little girl raised her head with a naive smile, with a sweet voice said: “Grandma said right! She said you must not have had a candle at home since you had just moved in, and asked me to bring you one.”

For a moment, the businessman was overwhelmed with shame. Looking at the innocent and enthusiastic girl in front of him, he suddenly realized the reason why he had lost his family and failed in business all these years. The crux of all the problems lies in his closed, jealous and indifferent heart.

The candle sent by the little girl not only lit up the dark room, but also lit up the merchant’s originally indifferent heart.
