In the early days of the church, many church services were held at night, and candles were used mainly for lighting. Now, electric lamp to become common, no longer use candles as lighting supplies. Now to give the candle another layer of meaning.
Generally in the offering of Jesus in the temple ceremony, there will be a candle blessing ceremony; Candlemas: Eight days after the birth of Jesus, when he went to the temple to be circumcised, a righteous man named Simion was revealed by the Holy Spirit to know that the child was the blessed one of God. He took it to him and called it “the light revealed to the Gentiles, the glory of Israel” (Luke 221-32). Candlemas is used by the Church to celebrate the consecration of Jesus to the Temple on February 2 every year. Prayers are said to express the meaning of candles. “O Lord, the fountain of all light, whom thou hast appeared to Simeon and Ana, beseeching me, by the candle, to receive the light of Jesus Christ in the path of holiness into the eternal light.
Candle offering (wax offering) : A candle offered at the altar or in front of an icon to express love and sincerity. Resurrection Candle/Five Wound Wax: Symbol of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
